I have a cable-modem connection to the internet and I bought a router in order to share my internet connection betwen my laptop and my PC. The router I bought is D-Link DIR-300. The first weird thing I notice after connecting all the wires and cables was that my laptop had direct connection to the internet (public IP) even though it was connected to the router (not the cable modem). After that I connected my PC to the router, and to my surprise my PC got a public IP as well (a new IP, different from that of my laptop). If I ping from my laptop to my PC (and vice versa) I get a successful response, meaning my PC and laptop can reach each other, but not through a private LAN (which doesn't exist in my case because both computers were given public IPs) but through the internet. The ping between the two computers takes about 20 ms which is clearly a ping through the internet given that a ping through a private LAN takes 1 ms or less. In Firefox when I highlight a text or phrase and right-click it, I noticed there's a sweet menu item called "Search Google for [highlighted text]". Now that I discovered it, I use it all the time for quick Google look-ups on things. But most of the time, I like to use it to look up a definition of a word I don't know. My question is, how can I edit that menu item (or create a new one) so when I click that menu item, it pre-fills the Google search box with "define: [highlighted text]"? And if not, how can I create a context menu-item so I can look up words on a particular dictionary site? Thanks for any insight! I'm trying to enable Hyper-V on my machine in order to use Docker. I've tried letting Docker enable it, using Windows Features to enable it, and using Powershell (as administrator) . Some laptops have a special USB port that can deliver more power than the other ones. However it is not always easy to identify which one is the good one, nor how much power it can deliver. I'm trying to transfer files from my windows 7 machine to my self built windows home server (old dell 4550). The WHS is the default install except Whiis add-on is installed. I also installed and uninstalled firefly media server add-on, and added two external usb 2.0 hard drives When I try to copy files, they will start copying then hang until I get this error "There is a problem accessing \server\folder" When I try to copy via command line, it will copy 2-3 files then say "the specified network name is no longer available" then copy a few more and repeat. this happens with the copy and xcopy command. I running a 10/100 netgear 24port switch (unmanaged) and linksys WRT54GL flashed with the tomato firmware. cat5e cables. I am editing a book in LibreOffice Writer. The first page is the title page; the second page is the table of contents; the third page is Page 1, and on this page I wish to create a right-justified header to read: Author's Name / BOOK TITLE / 1. We have a broadband line coming into our building which delivers around 8-10Mbps, which is okay but not great. Fiber is available in our area (30-100Mbps) but it's not available where we are just yet. Is there some way we could connect two lines (which we would take from two different providers so we would have redundancy if one failed) and merge them into one signal which we could distribute? I am sure that I have seen someone have a part of their prompt aligned to the right in their terminal window and then have the actual cursor start on a second line. I know that I can achieve the second line with a "\n" in the PS1, but I cannot figure out how to align part of it to the right. Was what I saw just whitespace added between the two strings? I want to launch MPlayer via SSH and let it run (I’m a radio fan). For this I SSH to my remote machine (a Cubietruck running LUbuntu) and I issue the following command: screen mplayer -playlist .path/to/the/playlist Everything works as expected, but when I exit my SSH session the music stops altogether. After logging back in I cannot find my screen instance anymore ( screen -ls says No Sockets Found in /var/run/screen/ ) I’ve used screen with another application (such as rTorrent) and everything worked ok. Is this a specific MPlayer issue? Update: the reason I use screen and I'm not going the "nohup" way is that I want to re-gain access to the mplayer instance (change the station, change the playlist etc.)

I have a few dozen excel files which are all of the same format (i.e. 4 worksheets per Excel file). I need to combine all the files into 1 master file which must have just 2 of the 4 worksheets. The corresponding worksheets from each Excel file are named exactly the same as are the column headers. While each file is structured the same, the information within sheet 1 and 2 (for example) is different. So it can’t be combined into one file with everything in one sheet! Everything was fine, and suddenly, the start menu button, including everything else on the taskbar, stopped working. I can right click on start button but if I try clicking volume, battery, action center etc icons, nothing happens. I have watched a video on youtube, I didn't close the browser window and it is buffered. I can watch that video anytime, without connecting to internet, as it is completely buffered. I would like each duplicate value group to have alternating shades via Conditional Formatting if possible. I've tried to create a "helper" cell to increment for each duplicate group, but can't seem to figure it out. I don't use or want to use OneDrive, but after upgrading to Windows 10 it's been installed automatically and added to the sidebar of every explorer window: I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of it. I can't uninstall it like a normal app, and I can't seem to unpin it in Explorer's options. I tried following one of Microsoft's guides (requires login) to getting rid of it, but that seems to only remove stored OneDrive files. I've also tried following another Microsoft Guide and SU answer , but I can't seem to edit group policies on my computer (maybe because I upgraded from Win7 Home Premium?). There are to partitions one of Type 17 and one of type 07, the detail disk command show me that the disk is not a boot disk. How can I set this boot flag with diskpart? I try to use Unicode characters in file names. It is possible to use them, if I copy the character into the clip board and paste it into the file name. But I did not manage to enter them directly via the keyboard. I enabled the hex numpad registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Input Method] "EnableHexNumpad"="1" But when I try to use it I never get the character I want to. Is it possible to have more then one value in a cell and then use an X Y (Scatter) chart to represent the dots on the X and Y Axis ? I successfully set up an enterprise Wi-Fi connection with LDAP authentication by way of FreeRADIUS . I used EAP-TTLS PAP because I have hashed passwords in my OpenLDAP directory. When I use TKIP wireless encryption for that WPA2 access point, everything goes very well and my Android phone clients connect just normally (until now all clients have just been Android phones). BUT when I use AES , the clients cannot connect any more, and I don't know why. The log seems very good, and I tried and searched a lot with unfortunately no success. I'm troubleshooting a wireless connectivity problem on a Toshiba P775-S7215. The wireless seems to be stuck "Off". Pressing the wireless button (located to the right of the power button) causes it to beep and light up, but then it seems to turn itself off (light goes out). Holding FN-F8 causes a window to pop up that claims "the wireless communication switch is off". Disabling "eco mode" via the Toshiba eco Utility in the system tray causes the eco light (green light between the power button and the wireless button) to go out and the wireless button to light up, but everything still claims the hardware radio switch is still off (including the Intel My WiFi utility in the system tray). Pressing the wireless button in this configuration causes a beep and the light goes off briefly before coming back on. I find Georgia taxing, as it's become all the rage on too many websites in the last year or so. I've got custom stylesheets set up in Chrome to tweak a number of sites I like, but it becomes prohibitive to make a custom stylesheet for every site, and I really only want to do a replacement where they've used Georgia. Equally annoying is popping up the inspector whenever I change a page to set the fonts again. Anyone know how to do this? Alas, there doesn't seem to be a plugin that has this—either they replace all the fonts on a page, or are too narrow in focus. If there's nothing out there, I may consider writing a bookmarklet to do just this, and perhaps eventually expand that to plugin(s) for the various browsers, but I'd rather not duplicate work someone else has already done. When I try to ssh to particular machine/s in a list, The SSH command happens to be freezing. I tried out setting ssh timeout. But then also it's freezes even after the timeout. I recently formatted and reinstalled Windows on my laptop. It now runs much faster. I have been doing this about once a year for the past decade. Why is this needed? I always figured this had to do with installing and removing programs, which over time fill up the registry with junk. Is this true? Are there any programs that can tweak the system without reformatting? Microsoft is giving Windows 10 away for free to Windows 7/8/8.1 users. If one reserves Windows 10 with the new notification in the tray area, what will happen to their Windows 7/8/8.1 license? Are you really getting Windows 10 for free, as in you upgrade from 7/8/8.1 but you still own the previous version of Windows and Windows 10, or are you really trading your old Windows license for a new one? Currently I have associated various text file formats (.md, .txt, .taskpaper) to be opened by sublime text. This results in ALL of them being assigned the SAME icon file, namely the sublime text icon. How can I get each file format to have its own unique icon file (supplied by me)? Change the icon associated with one of the file types using FileManType by Nirsoft. The Result: it changes the icon for ALL of the file types that sublime opens (not what I wanted) Now I tried to get clever... Since Saturday last week ( 7 Apr 2018 ), I am experiencing strange problems with a lot Windows 7 installations. The problem is that user profiles get replaced with temporary profiles. In the registry, under key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList , the profiles get renamed to .bak and a new profile with directory C:\Windows\Temp gets created. Most of the time, the profile MSSQL$... gets damaged, which renders SQL Server 2012 unuseable. But I also noticed this issue on several non-SQL-Server profiles, including the user profile on my private computer. After renaming the ".bak" key back to its original name, the profile actually works fine again. Since last Saturday, 8 independent customers* had this problem, and also my own profile got corrupted. The weird thing is that I could not see any recently installed Windows Updates (except MSSE updates) which could have caused the issue. I also didn't find any Malware that could cause the issue. I SSH with PuTTY from my Win7 x64 laptop to a Unix environment for my office. The problem I'm facing is very similar to this post where I cannot send an Esc character to the terminal. I first noticed it when trying to exit insert mode in vi , but based on the troubleshooting within that post that I've done it seems that hitting the Esc key just isn't doing anything at all. So first off, let me restate the problem. Logged into PuTTY, vi a file, go into insert mode, can't come out without hitting F1 and then :q (to quit the help), then I can save and quit the document. I have heard that each tab in a Google chrome is a separate process. So if any tab crashed it won't be affected to the whole browser. So if you open so many tabs there will be as many processes in the OS. Is this a performance issue? Answer I've used Chrome as main browser on one of my PCs. I've never experienced performance problems . Actually the mechanism keeps the single tabs very responsive because one "bad" site doesn't affect the other tabs. Is it true that if I want the iMac running Lion on it to be able to read and write any files on the drive, and to have files greater than 4GB (which FAT can't have), then it is best to reformat immediately to exFAT before writing anything to this new drive? It's no secret that using two physical drives gives better performance than two partitions on the same physical drive; because there are two devices, they each have their own platters, head, caches, controllers, etc. (eventual system bottlenecks and such aside). I'm wondering if the same thing is true of RAM. That is, for example (other factors such as speeds, timings, etc. being equal), would installing two 1GB sticks of RAM give better performance than one 2GB stick? For instance, characters sometimes completely disappear. The most common issue, however, is that my vectors, which I always write in boldface but not in italics , occationally (and seemingly randomly) turns up in italics when I open a document I have previously saved. I have a Linksys WRT54G plugged into the cable modem, and a 2nd wireless router, an old D-Link plugged into that. Both wireless routers work, but if I connect wirelessly to the Linksys router I get transfers going about 10 times slower than if I connect wirelessly to the D-Link even when accessing computers that are plugged directly into the Linksys router. I've tried using just the D-Link and removing the Linksys, but it seems to hang regularly when it's running a DHCP server. When I have both routers on, the D-Link passes all DHCP requests to the Linksys. If I disconnect and reconnect, the Linksys runs at full speed for a while, but quickly drops back down to slow speeds. I'm a Java Student and my Tomcat Server wasnt running properly on my XP OS and since i cant afford buying a new OS for my computer, i had to get one the easy way. So,I installed an unconventional version of Windows 7 that i found somewhere on the web. The win 7 works fine but most of my disk space is located in my XP partition so i d'like to go back to XP in order to clean up my disk but i'm afraid i didnt setup the dual boot properly. Now i cant access the XP part of my computer because XP doesnt showup in the dual boot manager. It also seem like both OS are running on the same disk partition.
